Thank you, John Purdie, for your April 2 letter 'City work will destroy trees, neighborhood” concerning what the city is doing to your neighborhood.
I called the streets department last year about curbing. The city not only fixed curbing, they resurfaced the street. They did a very commendable job. The water no longer runs in my yard.
On the downside; however, if I could only get the snow removal crew to stop throwing loose resurfacing material left over from the resurfacing crew up on my front lawn, would save me a lot of work getting it back on the street where it belongs in the first place.
Back to the subject at hand, why do they put sidewalks where no one walks? I'm sure it's for future building, but what about the present? Let's start fixing the sidewalks that are here. Seems to me bikers have their lanes pretty much taken care of. Let's start taking care of the people who just want to walk safely in their own neighborhoods without tripping over some uprooted cement slabs.
