Letter: Circus animals deserve better treatment

In the face of public disgust and a battered 'bottom line,” Ringling Brothers finally 'retired” its beleaguered elephants. Yet last month, Cedar Rapids effusively, and naively, welcomed the Shrine Circus, with its 'herd of Asian elephants,” 'massive Bengal tigers act(ing) like little kittens” - what kind of person would even want such a thing? - 'dancing” horses and camels, etc.

Well, aren't we the Masters of the Universe? Can't we move beyond this medieval garbage? (Quoth the elephant, according to sources: 'I bore myself now ... cut off from my life and language. None of me is left; yet still you find something to waste.”)

But I guess becoming a 'black site” for animal abuse due to Iowa's unconstitutional 'ag-gag” law is something to celebrate with such appropriately vicious and pointless 'entertainment.”

Meanwhile, all those young, sophisticated professionals the 'corridor” is trying to lure might want to reconsider. Especially because, at the rate things are going, by the time they become older retired professionals hoping to relocate to the countryside, they will probably find every once-bucolic streambed occupied by a contaminant-spewing torture chamber.
