Letter: Bond will protect our water, land

On Nov. 8, I'm voting for the $40 million Linn County Water and Land Legacy bond.
I applaud our Linn County Conservation Board for developing a long-range plan which includes funding. While the board has published a list of 28 potential projects the bonds could fund including trails and parks, I believe the most important projects involve water quality and land protection.
For instance, developing and protecting wetlands along the Cedar River will naturally lessen the impacts of potential flooding in Cedar Rapids. As we've seen in the past couple of weeks, Cedar Rapids urgently needs to find ways to better manage water runoff while at the same time find ways to improve water quality.
I encourage fellow Linn County voters to join me in supporting this vital funding to improve the protection of our land and water for us and for our future generations.
