Letter: Blum should listen to all constituents

Congressman Rod Blum said in a recent Gazette article that he is only interested in talking to 'real Americans” ('Blum says he'll hold 4 town halls in May,” April 13).
I would like to say to Congressman Blum that I am a real American. My ancestors came to these shores in 1654 and were responsible for helping this become the United States. While I may be a Democrat who did not vote for him, he represents me and the rest of the people in Iowa and we have every right to meet with him.
The members of organizations that I belong to have discussed the conduct at other forums and our intention is to ask questions and listen to his answers. All we ask if that he treat us with respect as well and that respect starts with listening to the people he was elected to represent. We all know that the one thing our elected officials value above all else is votes. I can promise Rep. Blum a fight like he's never seen in 2018 if he continues to ignore the people he represents.
