Letter: Blum goes against the current

Rod Blum deserves re-election: for the last two years he has demonstrated that our common sense views as Eastern Iowans didn't go to Washington to die. G.K. Chesterton wrote, 'A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.”
Blum's very first vote was against the establishment's speaker John Boehner. This gutsy vote effectively isolated Blum from the favor of the Washington machine from day one. But you'll notice that Blum's courageous action lead to Speaker Boehner being ousted just a few months later.
Throughout his term Congressman Blum showed Washington, D.C. that the people of Iowa are alive and passionate about change. Blum has challenged the Congressional pension, defended the taxpayer from greedy lobbyists, and fought every day to keep promises to Iowa seniors and veterans through preserving Social Security, Medicare and expanding Veteran Benefits.
For solutions to stay alive, for our future to thrive, we should send Blum back to Washington.
