Letter: Ban makes mockery of Statue of Liberty

Every man or woman in the United States except for the Native American is a foreigner as in today's refugees. Most black Americans can trace their ancestry back to the slave era and were brought to America against their will. However, today their ancestors are American citizens. But the rest of us, that's you and me, are the product of brave man or woman who came to America to escape persecution in their native land or for a better life in America. Granted they weren't always welcome, but life was better here and they were free. You and I are the results of that perseverance.

Now was are faced with a political regime who wants to make a mockery of our great symbol, the Statue of Liberty whose motto is 'Give me your poor, your huddled masses, etc.” We are turning our backs on men and women who aided our troops when they fought in foreign countries. We are turning our back on people in war torn countries who have had to endure hardships from a war they had no part in because of a decree by our present political party. The seeds of hatred have been planted and we are seeing the consequences through Mosque burnings and people being attacked on the streets and on Facebook.

Is this what we want America to become?
