Letter: Another GOP attack on the middle class

As Republicans in the Iowa House and Senate attack our public employees via House Study Bill 84 and Senate File 213, I encourage your readers to research the true authors of this proposed legislation: an out-of-state group named 'Americans for Prosperity.”
I was very fortunate to grow up in Iowa and receive a top-notch education attending public schools and owe a great deal to the fine teachers who educated and mentored me along the way. Our state continues to struggle with 'brain drain” and should the GOP's misguided efforts at busting public-sector unions be successful the problem will only be exacerbated. Rather than doing the bidding of out-of-state conservative groups and their wealthy benefactors, Republicans should instead serve the Iowans who elected them. Attempting to turn Iowa into a Tea Party 'utopia” like Kansas might be good for future employment opportunities of some in the Iowa Legislature, but will only hurt our state in the long run by discouraging young people from pursuing the honorable profession of teaching.
