Letter: A letter to Trump supporters

I grew up in Iowa, still have family there, and although I live in another state, I will always have a place in my heart for Iowa and Iowans.
I did not ask my Iowa family members if they voted for Trump, but I suspect that they did. I do know that they are not racists or bigots. Even though lots of hateful and even violent speech came out of the campaign, my guess is that most Iowa Trump voters are, like my family, good people.
Many members of minority communities, though, do not know this. They are afraid of losing their rights and fear for their safety. It is important that Trump voters reassure us that they will stand in solidarity with women, immigrants, Latinos, African Americans, Muslims, Jews, the LGBT community, everyone whose rights may be threatened. Let us know that you want to heal our country and that you will support the rights of all people to pursue their dreams and live without fear in the United States of America.
