Let’s not try to fool the public

Come on! Let's not try to fool the public. Sara Riley, you said Paul Tranter's letter concerning the Liz Mathis rear-ending of a car was really politically motivated (“Officer in Mathis crash followed practice,” June 18).
Sad to say, you are speaking out of both sides of your mouth. What do we know? We know you, Sara Riley, are a longtime Democrat and Liz Mathis is also a Democrat. Enough said.
Additionally, your stretch is that your “book-of-business” says about half of the rear end-accidents are ticketed today, not like the old days when they were 100 percent. Who's to say your “book-of-business” is accurate or indicative for our city. Only Sara.
Further, cannot one say when the Cedar Rapids Police Department officer failed to ticket Liz Mathis, did he not become in essence the judge (or jury) for the situation? We will never know the answer about a questionable accident because Mathis did not have to appear before her peers. Right?
