Let’s leave a place where kids will prosper

If we want to have “morning in America” and “a bright new day” for our children who are now young adults, it is critically important how the aging baby boomers use the time we have left on this earth.
The current approach is to double down on extraction industries and food production. That approach stresses the planet and threatens sustainability, creating a gray day for the next generation of leaders, our children, and in turn their children. Rising health care costs for middle-aged and senior citizens is a huge driving force behind this doubling-down approach.
In physics class, we learned that for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction in the universe. Let's think about that when we consider fracking for natural gas or creating industries that require millions of gallons of water weekly.
Iowa is blessed in many ways. As we approach the golden years, let's not double down on unsustainable practices.
