Let UI know if art exhibit offends you

In a Sept. 16 article about the University of Iowa's controversial exhibit, “The John Holmes P - k parade” in the Accent section, we learned that UI student Emily Barwick has an exhibit of nearly three dozen sculptures of a “famous porn star's penis.”
Let's see. UI spokesman Tom Moore stated that the university reviewed the exhibit and closed the door on it because it didn't want to “offend anyone passing by,” but left the exhibit on display because it “met all the guidelines” and “it's a matter of artistic expression.” Makes me wonder what wouldn't meet the guidelines and what they are trying to promote at the UI.
I'm offended that this kind of garbage is allowed at the university and I ask others who are offended to let the university know about it. Contact UI's president at (319) 335-3549 or by email at president@uiowa.edu. A lack of action creates the impression that this junk is tolerated.
The exhibitor stated, “I didn't do it to shock people.” If you believe that, you probably also believe the university is spending your tax money and contributions wisely.
