Let capitalism handle risks, not government
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 19, 2012 11:13 pm
The lead story in the Jan. 15 Gazette (“Risky business”) clearly demonstrates the folly of any government or any agency of government subsidizing any private business, even if that business might cater to politically correct environmentalists, like this one.
While it might make sense to provide a bit of tax incentive to attract new businesses to a location, $600,000 of Iowa taxpayers money seems lost here because of the foolishness of the state and several agencies attempting to determine which enterprises might be successful.
It is the function of private capital to sort out risk to be taken to form businesses, not the state or any other government.
