Legislatures should cut their pay, benefits
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 3, 2011 10:49 am
Why doesn't Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and the rest of his congressional cronies lead the way in budget belt-tightening by voluntarily taking a 10 to 20 percent pay and benefit cut? The fairest way to solve the debt crisis is to set all programs and entitlements by the same amount, no exceptions.
Harkin is also one of the few in Congress to refuse curtailing earmarks.
Sometimes as I observe congressional chaos, I think we could pay them what they are worth based on public surveys and save a lot of money.
