Legislation hampering Iowa school boards
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 4, 2010 11:40 pm
School boards across Iowa are working on improvement plans in preparation for qualifying for Rush to the Top funds from the federal government. This process involves collaboration with parents and teachers. These efforts are being hampered by the recent passage of Iowa SF 2033, state legislation which would weaken the position of school boards in their efforts to make changes in low-performing schools.
The boards are asking legislators to modify SF 2033 so that they may continue the collaborative process. I believe this modification needs to happen.
