Leaders’ actions led to voters saying ‘no’

I love Cedar Rapids, and I believe that if you love something, you support it and protect it.
I've never before voted against raising local taxes. My “no” vote (May 3 sales tax referendum) was justified when I started hearing City Council members wonder why the tax extension vote was lost. The council is out of touch; the citizens have been vocal, loud and clear, about their lack of trust and support for some of the actions the council has taken, like the sneaky way Jeff Pomeranz was hired and the nasty way Jim Prosser was let go as city manager.
The council talks about revitalizing downtown, but then closes three streets into and out of downtown, one of them being Second Avenue that everyone seems opposed to except the council and the investors.
Since Mayor Ron Corbett likes to push things through, how about pushing through land-development practices that will decrease flood hazards? And how about respecting opposing views?
