Lawmakers wasting time, resources

To the editor:
Wake up, Iowans! The legislative agenda for the next few years has been determined by ALEC with their penny wise, pound-foolish plans to undermine our schools and mental health system.
The charade of keeping all four mental health hospitals open until December will result in the eventual closing of all of them with a switch to private care that will be more costly, inconvenient and less humane.
Likewise, the money for allowable growth is available but will be misused by artificial juggling to appease conservative demands, resulting in higher property taxes.
We need to demand better stewardship of time and resources by our legislators for the future of Iowa.
