Lawmakers secured beneficial funds

I would like to address some claims about Medicare law made in a June 6 letter by state Reps. Linda Upmeyer and Linda Miller. They were misleading ploys for political gain rather than honest debate.
While Upmeyer and Miller were focusing on issues that involved California, they failed to mention the most important piece of the law for Iowa: the $800 million Reps. Leonard Boswell, Bruce Braley and I fought for against Democratic leadership and the Obama administration to help Iowa. Even my Iowa colleague from across the aisle, Sen. Chuck Grassley, said the changes in the law are beneficial for Iowa.
This $800 million will improve reimbursement rates for doctors and hospitals in low-cost areas like Iowa, and it is likely that almost every county in the 2nd Congressional District would be eligible for these funds. The bill also provides assistance to rural doctors.
These provisions were a huge win for Iowa. Health care is an issue that affects our families and communities, and it's time that politicians stop using scare tactics and misinformation for personal gain. Those tactics might work some places, but not here in Iowa.
Rep. Dave Loebsack
2nd District, Iowa
