John Laverty is both the common sense and intelligent choice for re-election to an at-large seat on the Cedar Rapids school board. They are both active volunteers in the schools where their children attend. They have a vested interest in doing what's best for students, above all else.
Knowing John's work at the University of Iowa for the past 20 years, I can tell you that he is committed to ensuring all students fulfill their potential and have the opportunity to further their education with career programs, two-year community college programs or four-year college degrees. He successfully manages a budget in his work at UI and has worked diligently with his fellow board members and Cedar Rapids Community School District administration to balance the school district's budget, even during our economic downturn.
Laverty's academic background, as well as his excellent management skills and integrity, makes him exceptionally well qualified to continue the school board's oversight and policy-making mission.
