Lack of vision is killing town

There you go again, Cedar Rapids voters. Your lack of vision is what is killing this town.
Why would any business want to stay or expand or locate here when we will not make the investment in our roads, infrastructure and protection from future floods? Trust me, it will happen again.
Why, because until we restore the natural wetlands along our waterways there will be no place for the water to go when we have heavy snows, rains, etc. Our state has not one, but two, large waterways bordering us and due to development along the shores and their tributaries we have turned these rivers into funnels. A funnel overflows when too much water pours in, very simple.
I am perplexed why many large and small business owners in this town voted this down. It only makes sense that when you have a vibrant developing city it is good for your business. You would make back that 1 percent (local-option sales tax) tenfold. Jobs, jobs, jobs!
Unfortunately, Cedar Rapid voters have a history of selfishness and lack of foresight. The library and airport come to mind. It took several elections before they came to fruition. Too bad the library was destroyed due to lack of flood protection.
I was struck by a statement made by someone with whom I rarely agree: “I know what the yes people want to do, those of you who voted no, what is your plan?” Well said.
