Labyrinth can help us find ourselves
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 29, 2013 3:18 pm
The recent “Faith and Values” article on labyrinths was timely (“Get lost to find yourself in a labyrinth,” Nov. 22). In this season of frenetic “gift giving,” we can indeed “get lost” and the unicursal pathway of a labyrinth can help us find ourselves. Perhaps the most valuable gift of all.
Eastern Iowa is fortunate to house several excellent outdoor labyrinths where people can calm and center themselves. The only requirements are to be present and dress warmly.
In addition to ones listed in the article, there are Bottleworks in the New Bo District, The 1080 Laughing Labyrinth, and the Prairie Labyrinth at Indian Creek Nature Center.
I'll be leading an afternoon walk at the Prairie Labyrinth on the Solstice, Dec. 21. People can register through the Nature Center.
And, as we settle into a New Year, New Bo Books will host a discussion on labyrinth in January.
Thanks for highlighting an inspiring way for people to enjoy the seasons as they “collect” themselves.
