To the editor:
I write to offer my observations of the personal skills and qualities of Kristin Janssen, Cedar Rapids School Board candidate. This is relevant information for any candidate seeking the public trust.
Shen is energetic, smart, dedicated, and passionate about her community and issues that affect children. She's a superb organizer and is fully engaged in any responsibility she assumes. Her ability to multi-task, giving focused attention to her paid job, her family and their activities, and her community, is extraordinary. Kristin delves into the history and background of practically everything in which she is engaged to gain better knowledge and more broad perspective. If she does not fully grasp an issue, she studies until she learns so she can lend a qualified and informed voice to her service and participation.
She serves the American Red Cross and Theatre Cedar Rapids on their boards. While living near Detroit her family regularly participated in volunteer activities to benefit area children and she organized a team that raised thousands of dollars to participate in a 60-mile walk for breast cancer research. Since returning to Cedar Rapids her family has volunteered in a variety of capacities, including for Special Olympics each year. And she every year has organized a local team to participate in the Especially for You Race against Breast Cancer.
She has a big heart and a fundamental understanding of the importance of giving in service to others. She married my son. Who better can provide unsolicited, unvarnished, straightforward, personal views than the mother-in-law?
