Kirkwood sports deserve more coverage

The Gazette does a great job covering Kirkwood Community College in the news section, but I'd love to see more Kirkwood sports coverage.
Kirkwood's six athletic teams consistently are nationally ranked and have won a combined 10 national titles. The Kirkwood women's basketball team finished 37-0 last year and won their seventh national title, and the following day received a brief mention in a sports page. The Kirkwood men's basketball team won the national title in 2016, and the next day received a couple of sentences. The Feb. 18 sports section was 12 pages long, but besides the score, there wasn't a single word about the Kirkwood men's or women's basketball games from the previous day.
There are exciting things happening within Kirkwood's athletic program - former players transferring to Iowa, ISU, UNI and other colleges; players overcoming obstacles; alumni playing professionally; and players and coaches receiving national recognition. I think our community would enjoy reading more Kirkwood stories in the sports section, as well as features about the athletic achievements of other local, small colleges who sometimes are overlooked.
