I remember eating the sugar cube. I was a student attending Perkins Elementary in Des Moines when I received the polio vaccine.
Born in 1956, I never saw an iron lung in person, just photographs. I was never denied use of a public swimming pool, although I heard stories of pools being closed due to polio outbreaks.
As reported by CNN among others, Aaron Siri, an attorney for Health and Human Services nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr in 2022 demanded federal authorities revoke their approval of the polio vaccine.
Siri has been working closely with Kennedy to select other people to work in the president-elect's incoming administration. Kennedy's main claim to fame is his vaccine skepticism.
Kennedy is unfit to serve as HHS Secretary. Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst must reject his nomination.
"Advise and consent" does not mean "acquiesce and confirm." Both senators must do their duty to Iowans and every person in the US by acting as members of a co-equal branch of the federal government.
Their primary duty is loyalty to the country, not the president-elect or the Republican Party.
