To the editor:
The election dust has settled. It's now imperative for the supporters of the winners to remain pro-active rather than resting on their laurels. Be mindful of embittered writers spewing resentful rantings regarding the Republican victories.
The key to responsible, effective government is for all voters to keep informed on the various issues and involved by holding their representatives' feet to the fire and urging them to vote in accordance with the Constitution. Be suspicious of the news agencies as they are mostly slanted toward the liberal/socialist perspective. An excellent referral resource is The New American, a pro-constitutional news magazine at www.thenewamerican.com.
Our Founders intended for good, effective government in our constitutional republic to work from the bottom up, not from the top down. Yes, our nation was meant to be a constitutional republic, not a democracy. A constitutional republic is a nation governed by representative law, whereas a democracy is a system governed by the majority, or mob rule.
The Constitution isn't outdated as the liberals, socialists, progressives, neoconservatives, news agencies and professors would have us believe. It's very relevant and indispensable in holding and keeping our nation together and on the right course. Ignoring it has placed U.S. in a very dangerous position.
Keep informed on the issues. Urge state representatives to resist calls for a dangerous Constitutional Convention for a balanced-budget amendment and federal representatives to resist dangerous, job-robbing, foreign trade treaties and duplicitous schemes such as term limits.
