In an election year, it is common to hear incumbents claiming that the state needs to retain legislators in order to maintain its course, but in the present climate in our polarized nation, the chasm between the parties is widening and we have lost sight of our priorities. 'Staying the course,” in this case, ultimately results in less and less being accomplished for our citizens.
We need to break free of the stifling gridlock and elect leaders who will put aside politics as usual in favor of the people's agenda. We need a legislator who comes to the position in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
I am endorsing Kristi Keast for state representative in House District 95 because she has a proven record of being such a progressive-minded leader. She has taught elementary school for more than 20 years and high standards for public education is one of her passions. Additionally, she has been an officer in the ISEA teacher's union and is a widely respected member of the Mount Vernon community. She has known success at every facet of her life because she recognizes the importance of people working together for the common good, a value she learned from growing up on an Iowa family farm.
The time for bickering is over. Keast has a history of uniting people when there was work to be done. That is why we need to elect her.
