Traffic was a nightmare for dropping off or picking up my son when he first started elementary school. Cars parked on both sides, adults crossing in-between vehicles and a dangerously narrowed traffic lane. I needed city help.
While sitting in the audience for the City Council meeting, a couple behind me was there to address the same issue. What the woman was saying made a lot of sense to me. I found myself vigorously nodding in agreement. I was hooked.
That women was Kara Larson, the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization president. She led an effort to temporarily increase a traffic enforcement presence securing our child’s safety while improving efficiency getting in and out of the school.
That’s who Kara is. She sees a problem affecting kids at school, pulls the people together who can make a difference and gets a fix.
Kara Larson has deep roots in the community and strong relationships with teachers and administrators in the Linn-Mar School District. She embraces the reality of differences between our kids ways of learning seeking out accommodations that make each child a success.
That’s why I’m voting for Kara Larson on Nov. 2. She embodies the caring spirit Linn-Mar has for its students, staff and parents. We don’t need ideologues pushing an agenda or members whose only contribution is, “willingness to learn.”
We need experienced people serving to keep Linn-Mar moving forward and teaching the tools of success to our children. We need Kara Larson.
