Justices pay the price for their actions

In a representative democracy, rules of law are derived from the consent of the governed. Iowa Supreme Court justices imposed the licensing of same-sex marriage without the consent of Iowa citizens, while legislators ensured they were not consulted.
Because checks and balances are part of these legal proceedings, these balances kicked in with the election - effectively checking out many of the legislators involved in denying voters access to the issue - plus the Supreme Court justices who imposed these new laws.
