Thank you Todd Dorman for your column (June 25) regarding the Arc of Justice Bridge! My family and I have lived in Cedar Rapids since 1984, and have been Gazette subscribers since then. I had no idea that the Arc of Justice was ever considered as a name for the Eighth Avenue Bridge.
After reading the column, I was astounded that this name was rejected for the bridge. Given its proximity to the Federal courthouse, this name could not be more appropriate.
It is unfortunate that our city leaders have succumbed the thinking that the concept of justice is no longer politically correct, as well as other ideas such as equality, diversity, and inclusion, all of which are essential to the functioning of our democracy.
