Judicial vote reveals Iowans’ mindset
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Iowa is a sadder place to live as of Wednesday morning.
Shame on the voters who chose fear over an independent judiciary. Shame on those who voted not for some idyllic golden past, but to turn back the clock to a time when minorities and others unlike us “knew their place” and stayed in the shadows, apart from society.
With Iowa's long history of tolerance and forward-thinking on so many civil rights issues, the vote against the Supreme Court justices was an ugly reminder that many of us are not so open-minded as we claim.
