Jordanian pilot’s death was heartless

To the editor:
I thought public beheading was the ultimate cruelty. The audiovisual recording of the torture and murder of the young Jordanian pilot has me rethinking the matter.
Joseph Conrad's Mr. Kurtz cried out with his dying breath, The Horror, The Horror! This would be an appropriate response for any feeling person after the journalists' descriptions of this man's last minutes on earth. What some of us saw and others of us heard is an obscenity. We human beings are feeble and our flesh provides no armor against hurt and pain. No person deserves the deliberate infliction of such a death. Peace to the family of Muath.
