Johnson’s strong background ideal for job

As a parent of three children who will be in the Iowa City school district for the next 13 years, I cannot be concerned about only the current facing the district. I must look at the impact of today's decisions over the next 10 to 15 years.
Will the inequities at the elementary level, which show far greater disparity in performance and socioeconomic demographics than the current high schools, be addressed? Will there be adequate space for my children to have a quality educational experience when they reach high school?
Anne Johnson's strong background in project management and planning will be an enormous asset to the school board as it determines the direction that the district must take to improve student opportunities and achievement. I observed Anne's skills during my involvement with Advocates for North Corridor High School. She was instrumental in determining that planning for a third high school had been put on hold and in obtaining more than 1,000 signatures in one week encouraging the district to resume planning.
It's imperative that our school board develop a long-term plan in addition to tackling the current issues. To learn about Anne's position on the issues, go to her Web site at www.southslope.net/~jjohnson
