To the editor:
It is not always easy to find a talented, dedicated person who is willing to run for school board. The job requires endless volunteer hours, a real dedication to the kids in our community and a commitment to be fiscally responsible. John Laverty has proved that he has the skills, knowledge and dedication to be a highly effective board member.
He is inquisitive, progressive and caring. His leadership has helped the district through a major natural disaster, an economic downturn and dwindling educational funding. He has approved a consistently balanced budget. He has maintained his focus and always looks to a positive vision to provide a solid educational foundation for all students. At the same time, he has encouraged opportunities for students to find ways to learn that best meets their individual needs.
He is in a unique position in that, professionally, he has access to the latest information about post high school opportunities for all students. This insight has been a strong addition to the board as they discuss the educational direction for the district.
I have worked with Laverty, both on the school board and as a school volunteer. He is dedicated, he is focused on kids and he deserves your vote.
