To the editor:
Ohio Gov. John Kasich brings a wealth of experience to the contest for the Republican presidential nomination.
He served nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. As chairman of the House Budget Committee, he was a chief architect of the first balanced federal budget since man walked on the moon. Many politicians talk about balanced budgets, but Kasich made it happen.
As governor of Ohio, he has helped turn the state's $6 billion budget hole into a $2 billion surplus. He also has presided over a net gain of 385,000 real, paying jobs during his time in office.
When Gov. Kasich served in the House he was on the Armed Services Committee for 18 years, gaining vital knowledge as the Soviet Union fell and the Middle East became the main focus of U.S. foreign policy.
Kasich knows how to get things done and has succeeded in doing so in Ohio and Washington. He brings a deep understanding of governance and a record of results that is unmatched by other Republican presidential candidates. True to form, he has been courageous enough to run on the facts of his extensive record. He has my support in the Iowa caucuses.
