To the editor:
The outcry against the Board of Regents' hiring process is naive and unfounded. How can we expect to attract top-level recruits without creating appeal and interest around a position? This is how the real world works: candidates want validation that a certain job will fit their needs and hiring committees work hard to provide that validation.
J. Bruce Harreld is a top-level recruit. With the major changes occurring in postsecondary education, his executive level experience in the corporate world will be a tremendous asset to the school. If the faculty does indeed support innovation and change they need to let the regents do their job and select the candidate that they believe will move the University of Iowa forward in the years to come. The recruitment process worked exactly how it was supposed to, and I believe it will ultimately show that they secured the right man for the job.
