It's our duty to protect human life
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The United States seems intent on war with Iran. From 2010 to the present we engaged in war in Iraq (Operation New Dawn), in bombing Libya (Operation Odyssey Dawn), in war on terrorism (Osama bin Laden killed in Pakistan as part of Operation Neptune Spear),in drone strikes in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, with U.S.combat troops as advisers to Nigeria and Uganda.
Where is the discussion of the morality of our country sending troops outside our boundary? Who is talking about the consequences to the people living in the above countries? Why can our hearts go out to people whose child has a serious disease yet we don't imagine the anguish that our military is inflicting on children and families in other nations?
We are the most powerful nation in the world. Surely it is our duty to protect human life around the world; to decrease the amount of suffering that occurs from illness and environmental crises.
A parent in Asia feels the same about his child/grandchild that you and I feel about ours. Please spend a moment considering.
