It’s not our place to judge other people
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I read about the Supreme Court ruling that it was OK for the members of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., to protest and chant how happy they are that our soldiers and sailors are being killed overseas. How narrow and sick-minded these people are. They should be lumped with all the other hate groups.
Who gives them the right to judge? While I'm not thrilled about same-sex marriage, it is what it is. I also believe gays, blacks, Jews and others should not be harassed. All of these groups of people have made contributions to this country to help make it a better place to live. If I had a gay, black or Jew for a neighbor, I would be sociable to them and respect their lifestyle for what it is. If they tried to push their lifestyle on me, I would tell them respectfully that is not my lifestyle and do my best to get along.
Perhaps when one of those protesters' loved ones die, a group should show up at the funeral and cheer how glad we are that one is dead. But that would be stooping to their demented level and most Americans are better than that.
