Iowa’s court system needs an overhaul

To the editor:
What is the world coming to when you can admittedly brutalize your child by burning her with a cigarette, pulling her hair, kicking and 'smacking” her and get a deferred judgment and 5 years probation ('Mother of Amber Alert victim avoids prison time,” July 8)?
Then the child was released back into the mother's custody. Are you kidding me? Where are we getting these judges?
Our whole system needs to be overhauled, this is embarrassing for Iowa.
