Iowa’s ag sector needs green future

Americans have become increasingly worried about climate change and destruction of ecosystems, and it is reassuring to see Congressmen and women fighting for change. In fact, there are several pushing for a Green New Deal, which would incentivize economic activity that will put less carbon into the atmosphere instead of more.
Climate change is something that affects us all, and near future changes in the agriculture industry are especially pertinent for Iowans - net farm income fell to a 12-year low last year, almost 7 percent lower than the USDA's projection. The challenging financial situation in U.S. agriculture highlights the need for improved access in key foreign markets, continued investments and commitments to renewable energy sources produced by farmers and ranchers.
With many candidates announcing their 2020 election plans, it is vital for Iowans to get their attention and let them know we care about a greener, more sustainable future for farmers in Iowa and all over the country.
