Iowans should care about Jan. 6 hearings

I have watched the Jan. 6 committee Hearings. I have seen the testimonies of Republicans, who supported, worked and voted for Donald Trump and were asked by Trump to ignore the Constitution in order to overturn the results of a fair election. Thankfully, they put God and country first in order to save our democracy. They testified Trump’s actions were and still are a threat to democracy.
I have wondered how our senators and representatives must be feeling while watching these hearings. It turns out, not all are watching. Sen. Chuck Grassley was asked in an interview with Bob Leonard on KNIA/KRLS radio about the hearings. He responded that he was too busy serving the people of Iowa to bother. Throughout the interview, he continually dismissed the importance, stating “What I’m hearing from Iowans isn’t much about Jan. 6, I’m hearing about inflation, gas prices...”
I encourage all Iowans to watch the hearings. It is important to not only read the words of the witnesses, but to see the pain and concern on their faces. Knowledge is power. I encourage you to let Grassley and other politicians know that Jan. 6 is important. Grassley’s dismissal of the insurrection is a threat to our democracy. If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
