Iowans, more important issues than budget
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 8, 2010 11:49 pm
The Iowa Legislature will reconvene on Monday and your elected representatives will likely tell you that Iowa's budget crisis is the No. 1 issue. The budget is important, but don't let your House and Senate representatives off the hook on other issues Iowans must face.
The Legislature must address issues such as factory farming and its effects on our environment, regulation of the predatory payday loan industry, voter-owned clean elections and other campaign finance reforms, and the closure of tax loopholes so that corporations pay their fair share to the state coffers.
These are issues that Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) is involved with and they are no-cost solutions.
CCI will host a forum with your Iowa City legislators at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 in the Illinois room of the Iowa Memorial Union. Your legislators need to know how you feel about these and other important issues. Let your voice be heard!
