Iowa GOP played ‘Brownback Bingo’ and won a budget crisis

Congratulations to the Iowa GOP for finally completing their Sam Brownback cosplay, budget deficit and all! After slashing taxes like it was some kind of contest and promising the economic equivalent of unicorns and rainbows, we’ve landed in the red.
Who could have guessed? (Spoiler: literally anyone with a calculator and a memory of Kansas in 2012.) We were told gutting revenue would usher in prosperity, but instead we’re staring at cuts to public schools, healthcare, and basic services like it’s a new tradition. So here we are, Brownbacked and bewildered; was tanking the state’s fiscal stability really worth it, Iowa GOP?
