Iowa GOP is on the wrong side of history

We have gotten to that point in our nation's history where nothing coming out of the mouth of Donald Trump surprises me.
In my lifetime he is easily the most woefully ignorant and racist person to hold the office of president. As disturbing as this may be, I am equally disturbed by the deafening silence of our Republican elected officials.
Gov. Kim Reynolds, Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, as well as state Rep. Bobby Kaufmann, have all shown their true colors. Rather than condemning Trump for his daily racist tweets, they remain silent. But why? There are only two possibilities, either they agree with the president or they're too afraid to upset the voter base that agrees with him.
One hundred years from now, none of them will be remembered for legislative initiatives they helped pass or defeat. They will be remembered for doing nothing when their voices were needed most.
There are two types of pages in our history books. One page has people like George Wallace and Joe McCarthy on it. The other page has people like Dr. Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy on it. I'm not a fortuneteller, but I'd be willing to place a bet on where they'll land.
