Iowa AD made little sense in interview

To the editor:
I was embarrassed when I read the Mike Hlas interview with Gary Barta regarding the Iowa football program ('Gary Barta: Foundation still strong enough with Ferentz,” Dec. 5).
Barta seemed confused, kept talking in circles and made little sense. If I understood it correctly, and I must admit it was difficult to understand what he was trying to say, this was the general point he tried to make: We have high expectations. We have not met those expectations in four years. I believe that we will meet those expectations again some day.
And that's what he wants to tell Iowa fans? That's pathetic. Not horribly pathetic. Barta's Learfield Directors' Cup standings are horribly pathetic.
Kudos to Hlas for asking Barta tough questions. I'm not ready to discuss firing Kirk Ferentz. Only because I don't trust Barta to hire his replacement. I want the new athletic director to take on that responsibility.
