Investor supports Steve Gray’s efforts

I hope citizens of Linn County cast their votes on the March 5 casino referendum based on facts and what's best for the community. The casino will create jobs, provide non-profit support, generate revenue for the local economy and provide a vibrant entertainment venue for those who do and don't find gambling appealing.
I've lived in Cedar Rapids for 15 years and take great pride in this community. It's been exciting to see us rebuild after the flood of 2008. Investment in venues such as the Paramount Theatre, NewBo, the Czech Village and others is evidence of the turnaround.
I am one of the “local investors” in the Cedar Rapids Development Group LLC. I became involved for one reason. A Linn County casino would be another large step in the transition from a flood ravaged community to an exciting, vibrant community.
In addition to being a personal friend, Steve Gray has my utmost respect. He has given to this community through many philanthropic efforts and the plan to bring a casino to Cedar Rapids is driven by his desire to make this a stronger community. The negative characterizations of Gray by the Just Vote No group are deplorable. I appreciate his leadership and he should be applauded for his ongoing commitment to Linn County.
If anyone questions what a casino could bring to this community, drive to Dubuque to see what a casino has done for their downtown riverfront area. Vote yes.
