Increasing voter registration better use of resources

Concerning Matt Schultz, Iowa's Secretary of State, and his dogged pursuit of illegal voters who presented themselves as someone else in the voting booth.
I'm amazed at how stupid elected officials believe the public is. Every once in a while you want to confront someone like Schultz and say “Are you serious? You are really doing this? You are really spending this amount of taxpayer dollars and state personnel time in hopes of ferreting out a couple of fraudulent voting acts?”.
To date, the intrepid secretary has not found one person to bring charges against, not one act that would inspire a new voter ID law being created. The efforts of other Republican officials nationwide have brought similar results.
Yet, the secretary and his Republican friends would be willing to disenfranchise thousands (millions nationwide) in case a few illegal votes have been cast. This is not a good return on investment. But I would call it a nationwide sham on voters by the Republican Party. Shame on them!
Maybe a better way of using resources would be to figure out how to increase voter participation.
