In Iowa, Whitaker enforced the law

A recent article about acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker's involvement in the 2006 enforcement actions at a meat processing plant in Marshalltown ('Iowa raid foretold Whitaker's immigration stance,” Dec. 30) is so typical, but consider the source. Any time I see an article authored by the Washington Post, I am cautious that it is actually presented as an anti-Trump hit piece.

Is Whitaker now promoting Trump's hard-line immigration policies as pronounced in the article? No, there were no actions then nor now directed at legal immigrants. Did Whitaker embrace an immigration crackdown as pronounced in the article title? No. He found undocumented workers in an Iowa community and he held them accountable. Similarly, he held those who hired them accountable for using cheap labor to maximize monetary gains. It's about time!

If our ineffective Congress had mandated use of E-Verify, much of the incentive for illegal entry would be gone. Border control is a multi-faceted problem.

Even Democrats say we need border control. Now let's define it, because the Democrats' vision seems to be a lot closer to open borders than controlled immigration. But, you say, we need workers. There are ways to allow immigrants without having open borders.

Whitaker did his job in Iowa in 2006. Congress, now do your job.

Here are starters: Mandate E-Verify; close visa overstays; stop catch and release; stop family immigration; stop lottery migration; effectively prohibit illegal crossings at the border - yes, that includes a wall.
