Improving neighborhood makes C.R. stronger

When I see organizations and individuals investing in the future of our community, I am proud and encouraged. Four Oaks and the Affordable Housing Network are working to improve Cedar Rapids through the Wellington Heights TotalChild Initiative - and this is only the beginning.
It takes the commitment of many institutions, organizations and people to build and sustain a thriving community, and that starts with the well-being of our children. By recognizing that we must address all areas of a child's life to ensure success, the TotalChild approach is an innovative way to make all of Cedar Rapids stronger.
I am very familiar with the importance of reliable, safe, quality housing in a person's life. A secure home is a crucial part of a child's identity. The Wellington Heights initiative will help transform this historic neighborhood back into a place where residents are proud to live and children are safe and happy.
It's going to take a lot of people, time, money and work to transform the neighborhood and help the children, but what's important is that the work has begun. With the community's support, it will continue.
