If it’s not broken, don’t fix it

The process of selecting judges in Iowa has been recognized as one of the best in the nation. In 2017, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranked Iowa among the top 15 in the nation. Our current system allows for an impartial and nonpartisan selection of judges. Our system works and our system is recognized as one of the best.

Republicans at the state capitol are trying to change all of that. Their proposed legislation would put the entire process of judicial selection in the hands of politicians. Do you really think that is a good idea?

Our government has three coequal but separate branches. The legislative branch has no business inserting itself in the judicial process. Plain and simple, this is a power grab by the Republicans.

I don't recall any of my local legislative candidates campaigning on a platform of judicial upheaval. Let's send them a clear message and tell them to vote 'no” on this nonsense and get back to the work of making Iowa a place that we can be proud to call home.
