IDs required for many things; add voting
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In response to several recent denigrations of voter ID requirements, including a July 27 letter by Virginia Meyer (“Official focusing on disenfranchising voters”), please consider the following.
IDs are required to obtain a driver's license, cash a check, get a passport, apply for myriad permits, purchase liquor, travel, and for traffic violations, some “stop and identify” statutes, some drug purchases, and others.
There are documented cases where deceased people and animals were registered to vote and voted, and where voters voted more than once. Fraud exists.
There are provisions for everyone to obtain some form of identification that will be accepted and ways to provide transportation for getting a proper ID and voting.
