ID laws no big hurdle for responsible voters

Jean McMenimen's July 26 column, “Voter ID laws infringe on right to vote,” is another in the parade of excuses for those who do not believe that the right to vote should carry with it at least a very small responsibility, a photo ID.
Voters are encouraged to be informed. If after all the hoopla regarding voter ID laws there is anyone anywhere in this country unaware of the issue, that person must be living under a rock and probably won't vote anyway.
As far as felons restricted from voting, if they have served their time but not satisfied fines, restitution, etc., their sentence is not complete. Once that is done, then of course their franchise should be returned.
People in foreign countries walk huge distances and brave deadly perils to vote. Why is acquiring a photo ID here such an insurmountable barrier? It sounds like another agenda is at work here.
